Inside Al-Hidayah

Al-Hidayah Islamic School was established in 1994 in Bentley, becoming the second Islamic school to open in Perth at the time. Australian Islamic College had been operating since 1986; by 1992 the Muslim community in Perth had grown enough to support a second Islamic school, and Al-Hidayah's founding group began planning a second institution.

The school is a co-educational primary school catering for Kindergarten to Year 6. It is not a high school, and Al-Hidayah students typically continue their senior education at one of Perth's Islamic high schools (most commonly AIC Kewdale, which is nearby) or at a local public or independent school.

Over thirty years of operation, Al-Hidayah has educated thousands of Bentley-area students with a consistent focus on delivering the WA Government Curriculum to a high standard alongside a structured Islamic Studies curriculum. The school is one of the cornerstones of the Bentley Muslim community.

What Al-Hidayah is known for

30+ years anchoring Bentley

Al-Hidayah has been part of the Bentley community for over three decades. Few Perth Islamic schools have that continuity.

Strong primary academic record

The school maintains consistent results against the WA Government Curriculum at primary level. Year 6 NAPLAN results are publicly available and broadly competitive with state averages.

Structured Islamic studies

Islamic studies, Quran recitation, and Arabic are core to the curriculum alongside the WA primary curriculum. The integration is the school's defining feature.

Walking distance from our Bentley centre

The Hedley Street site is essentially next door to our Bentley centre. For Year 6 students preparing for high school, weekly tutoring is logistically easy.

Things to consider

Al-Hidayah isn't the right fit for every student. Here are the genuine tradeoffs to think through, drawn from publicly available information about the school.

Primary school only

Al-Hidayah finishes at Year 6. Families need to plan high school transition separately. For students moving on to AIC Kewdale, AIC Thornlie, or another Perth Islamic high school, the transition is well-trodden.

Smaller scale than AIC

Al-Hidayah is a community primary school, not a multi-campus network. Resources and program breadth reflect that scale.

Islamic curriculum is core

For non-Muslim families, Al-Hidayah is unlikely to be the right fit. For Muslim families, the integration is the school's main draw.

Year 6 transition planning

We typically work with Al-Hidayah Year 6 students preparing for entry into Year 7 at a high school. Starting that conversation in Term 2 of Year 6 makes the transition smoother.

The ATAR pathway at Al-Hidayah

At Year 6 level, the Educatta program for Al-Hidayah students is focused on Year 7 readiness: solidifying Maths and English foundations, and orienting students to the move into a larger Year 7 cohort. We see most Al-Hidayah graduates continuing to AIC Kewdale or Thornlie, with some heading to local public secondary colleges.

Once students reach senior years, the standard ATAR pathway considerations apply (Methods + Chemistry + Human Bio + English for medicine, Methods + Physics + Chemistry for engineering). Al-Hidayah's role is to give students the literacy, numeracy, and study habits they'll lean on years later.

"At Al-Hidayah, English is taught well but the ATAR essay structure is its own beast. Educatta gave me the exact framework markers reward."
