Taught by ATAR grads

Every Educatta tutor scored 90+ ATAR. They’ve done what your child is doing.

What you’ll cover.

Here’s a preview of what to expect when we launch. Year 9 Science at Educatta will be mapped to the Western Australian Curriculum (delivered through the WA School Curriculum and Standards Authority, or SCSA). The course will cover four sub-strands of Science Understanding (Biological, Chemical, Physical and Earth & Space Sciences) alongside the Science Inquiry Skills strand that schools assess through practical reports.

Lessons will translate dense textbook chapters into structured, week-by-week notes. A 90+ ATAR tutor will walk through each concept, then students will work through curriculum-style questions and a marked weekly homework set. The goal is a Year 9 student who actually understands atoms, energy and ecosystems, not one who has memorised the labels.

  • 1.Biological Sciences: multicellular organisms, body systems, ecosystems and the flow of matter and energy.
  • 2.Chemical Sciences: atomic structure, the periodic table, types of chemical reactions and conservation of mass.
  • 3.Physical Sciences: energy transfer and transformation, the wave model, sound, light and the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • 4.Earth & Space Sciences. Plate tectonics, the rock cycle and Earth’s place in the solar system.
  • 5.Science Inquiry Skills: hypothesising, identifying variables, fair testing and structured discussion sections in practical reports.
  • 6.Scientific literacy. Reading data, interpreting graphs and writing precise, evidence-based conclusions.
What you’ll cover

Six Year 9 Science focus areas.

01

Atoms & the periodic table

Atomic structure, electron arrangement and reading the periodic table: the conceptual base for ATAR Chemistry.

02

Chemical reactions

Word and balanced equations, reaction types (combustion, neutralisation, decomposition) and conservation of mass.

03

Energy & waves

Energy transfer, transformation efficiency, the wave model, sound and light: the spine of Year 11 Physics.

04

Body systems

Coordination of digestive, respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems: direct preparation for Human Biology.

05

Ecosystems

Food webs, energy flow, biotic and abiotic factors, and human impact on biodiversity.

06

Earth & space

Plate tectonics, the rock cycle and our position in the solar system, with practical inquiry skills woven through.

Why Year 9 matters for ATAR Science.

Year 9 is where the conceptual scaffolding for senior Science gets built. Atomic structure, balanced equations and energy transfer are the load-bearing ideas behind ATAR Chemistry, ATAR Physics and Human Biology. A student who blurs them in Year 9 spends Year 11 patching gaps instead of stretching their ceiling. Educatta’s Year 9 Foundations track is sequenced so the same teaching style, vocabulary and rigour students will see in our ATAR programs starts here.

How Educatta will teach it.

When the program launches, classes will run weekly for 2 hours in groups of no more than 10 students. Every student will get a printed term workbook mapped to the WA SCSA Year 9 Science syllabus and sequenced to run a step ahead of school. Each week will pair in-class teaching with marked, annotated homework so misconceptions get caught early. Practical inquiry skills (hypothesis, variables, fair testing, valid conclusions) will be woven into every topic, not bolted on at the end of term.

Next in the curriculum

Heading into Year 10 Science next?

Year 10 Science is where the curriculum splits into the building blocks of Chemistry, Physics and Human Biology. Same small-group format, same tutors, picking up exactly where Year 9 leaves off.

Where + when

Canning Vale, plus live online.

When we launch, Year 9 Science will run weekly out of our Canning Vale centre, the only Educatta centre that runs Year 9 and Year 10 classes alongside the full ATAR program, plus a fully live online stream for families anywhere in WA. Each class will be a structured 2-hour session, capped at 10 students.

Canning Vale centre

1/2 Batman Rd, Canning Vale WA 6155. Central for Canning Vale, Willetton, Thornlie, Harrisdale and Southern River families. Two classrooms, snacks provided, free wifi.

Live online (WA-wide)

Same tutor, same workbook, same 10-student cap, streamed live. Ideal for families outside the southern suburbs or anywhere in regional WA.

FAQ

Year 9 Science, answered.

What will Year 9 Science cover under the WA Curriculum?
Year 9 Science under the WA SCSA syllabus covers four sub-strands: Biological Sciences (multicellular organisms, body systems, ecosystems and energy flow), Chemical Sciences (atomic structure, chemical reactions, conservation of matter), Physical Sciences (energy transfer, waves, sound and light) and Earth & Space Sciences (plate tectonics and Earth’s place in the cosmos). When we launch, Educatta will work through each strand with structured weekly lessons.
Is Year 9 Science important if my child wants to do ATAR Chemistry or Physics?
Yes. Year 9 is where the conceptual foundations are laid. Atomic structure, balanced equations, energy transfer and ecosystem dynamics in Year 9 are the load-bearing concepts behind ATAR Chemistry, Physics and Human Biology. Students who blur these in Year 9 spend Year 11 patching gaps instead of building on them.
How will Educatta Year 9 Science classes be structured?
Classes will run weekly for 2 hours in groups capped at 10. Every student will get a printed term workbook mapped to the WA SCSA Year 9 Science syllabus, with weekly homework, in-class practical questions and end-of-topic checkpoints. Tutors will be 90+ ATAR graduates of Chemistry, Physics or Human Biology, and they actually use this content.
Will you cover practical reports and scientific investigations?
Yes. The Science Inquiry Skills strand of the WA Curriculum will be woven through every Educatta workbook: formulating hypotheses, identifying variables, designing fair tests, recording data, drawing valid conclusions and writing structured discussion sections. These are the skills schools assess in practical reports and scientific posters.
Will classes run in person and online?
Both. When we launch, Year 9 Science classes will run in person at our Bentley and Canning Vale centres in Perth and stream live to anywhere in Western Australia. Online students will sit in the same class as in-person students with the same tutor and workbook. Join the waitlist and we’ll let you know the moment trial bookings open.
How do I get notified when bookings open?
Year 9 Science is launching soon. Join the waitlist with your email and we’ll send a single email the moment classes open and trial bookings are available. No spam, no marketing blasts in between.
