Year 10 Maths Tutoring
in Perth: Pre-ATAR

The make-or-break year before ATAR. We cover the full Year 10 Western Australian Curriculum, with explicit prep for ATAR Methods and Applications in Year 11.

What you'll actually master.

Our Year 10 program covers all six strands of the SCSA / Australian Curriculum v9 in Mathematics: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability. We teach to the depth Year 11 ATAR Methods and Applications assume, including 10A optional content (polynomials, surds, log laws) for students aiming at Methods.

Strands 1 & 2
Number & Algebra
The single biggest predictor of ATAR Methods success. We do not skim this.
Surds & indices
Surd manipulation, fractional and negative indices; the fluency Year 11 Methods Unit 2 takes for granted (10A content).
Quadratics & factorising
Factorising, completing the square, the quadratic formula; sketching parabolas in vertex form.
Simultaneous & non-linear equations
Linear and non-linear systems solved algebraically and graphically.
Logarithms (10A)
Intro to log laws and exponential equations; directly preps Methods Unit 3 (10A optional content).
Assessment: Two response tasks per term, plus a stretch paper for students aiming at ATAR Methods.
Strands 3 & 4
Measurement & Space
Trig stops being just SOH-CAH-TOA. Non-right-angle triangles, deductive geometric proof, and 3D measurement.
Sine & cosine rules
Non-right-angle triangles, the ambiguous case, and area of a triangle using two sides and an included angle (10A content).
Circle geometry
Tangent-chord angle, alternate segment theorem, cyclic quadrilaterals; geometric proof using deductive reasoning.
3D measurement
Surface area and volume of cones, spheres, pyramids and composite solids.
Congruence & similarity proofs
Deductive proofs in geometry: parallel lines, triangle congruence, similar figures, and properties of quadrilaterals.
Assessment: Investigation task, typically a real-world architecture or surveying problem.
Strands 5 & 6
Statistics & Probability
Where Methods and Applications statistics start. Bivariate analysis, conditional probability, sampling and inference.
Bivariate analysis
Line of best fit, correlation coefficient, interpreting bivariate scatter plots and time-series data.
Conditional probability
Two-way tables, tree diagrams, independent vs dependent events; sampling without replacement.
Sampling & inference
Random sampling, sample vs population, and the intuition behind statistical inference that Methods builds on.
Standard deviation & distributions
Calculating standard deviation, comparing distributions, and an introduction to the normal distribution (10A); preps Methods Unit 4 directly.
Assessment: Mini-research project: a statistical investigation reported in a 4-page write-up.

Continuing into ATAR Maths next year?

Year 10 is the launchpad for ATAR Methods or Applications. Both options live on our ATAR Maths hub, with the same small-group format and tutors, designed to make Year 11 Unit 1 feel like revision.

Questions we hear a lot

Year 10 Maths FAQs.

How does this prepare for ATAR Methods or Applications?
We cover the full Year 10 WA curriculum at the depth assumed by Year 11 ATAR Methods and Applications. Term 2 onward focuses on the algebra, trig and statistics that Methods will rely on, so Year 11 Unit 1 feels like consolidation rather than learning new content.
My child wants ATAR Methods. What should they prioritise in Year 10?
Algebra, algebra, algebra. Specifically: factorising quadratics, completing the square, surds and indices, and being fluent with logs. We dedicate Term 2 and Term 3 to making these second-nature so Year 11 Methods Unit 1 feels like revision, not learning.
Is it too late to start in Year 10?
No, but Term 1 of Year 10 is the latest "comfortable" entry point. We've had students join in Term 3 and still catch up to top of class, but it requires more weekly contact hours. The earlier you start, the lighter the load.
Do you cover school tests and assignments?
Yes. We adapt to your child's school tests and topic order. Our tutors will work directly through their assignment briefs and revise for upcoming chapter tests when needed.
How does this compare to a private 1-on-1 tutor?
A 1-on-1 tutor in Perth typically charges $90โ€“$120/hr. Our small group (max 10) is $48/hr in package, includes the workbook, snacks and drinks, and gives your child the social accountability of learning with peers. We won't pretend 1-on-1 has no advantages, but in our experience the small-group format outperforms it 4 terms out of 5.

"I went from being scared of Methods to picking it confidently for Year 11. Educatta gave me a head-start I couldn't have got at school."
