What you'll actually master.

Year 10 is the bridge to ATAR. Our program covers the full Year 10 curriculum at the depth ATAR Methods and Applications will assume in Year 11.

Strand 1
Algebra & functions
The single biggest predictor of ATAR Methods success. We do not skim this.
Polynomials & factorising
Quadratics by factorising, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. Polynomial division.
Quadratic graphs
Parabolas, vertex form, intercepts, and using graphs to solve real-world maximum/minimum problems.
Simultaneous equations
Linear and non-linear systems solved algebraically and graphically.
Surds, indices & logarithms
Surd manipulation, fractional and negative indices, intro to log laws. Directly preps Year 11 Methods Unit 2.
Assessment: Two response tasks per term, plus a stretch paper for students aiming at ATAR Methods.
Strand 2
Measurement, geometry & trigonometry
Trig stops being just SOH-CAH-TOA. Sine and cosine rules, non-right-angle problems, and 3D geometry.
Right-angle trigonometry
Solving for unknown sides and angles, including angle of elevation/depression problems.
Sine & cosine rules
Non-right-angle triangles, ambiguous case, area of a triangle using two sides and included angle.
Circle geometry
Tangent–chord angle, alternate segment theorem, cyclic quadrilaterals.
3D measurement
Surface area and volume of cones, spheres, pyramids and composite solids.
Assessment: Investigation task, typically a real-world architecture or surveying problem.
Strand 3
Statistics, probability & data
Where Methods and Applications statistics start. Bivariate data, conditional probability, sampling.
Bivariate & time-series data
Scatter plots, correlation, line of best fit, interpreting trends over time.
Conditional probability
Tree diagrams, two-way tables, dependent vs independent events.
Sampling & inference
Random sampling, sample vs population, basic introduction to confidence ideas.
Standard deviation
Calculating, comparing distributions, normal distribution intro. Preps directly for Methods Unit 4.
Assessment: Mini-research project: a statistical investigation reported in a 4-page write-up.

Continuing into ATAR Maths next year?

Year 10 is the launchpad for ATAR Methods or Applications. Both options live on our ATAR Maths hub, with the same small-group format and tutors, designed to make Year 11 Unit 1 feel like revision.

Questions we hear a lot

Year 10 Maths FAQs.

How does this prepare for ATAR Methods or Applications?
We cover the full Year 10 WA curriculum at the depth assumed by Year 11 ATAR Methods and Applications. Term 2 onward focuses on the algebra, trig and statistics that Methods will rely on, so Year 11 Unit 1 feels like consolidation rather than learning new content.
My child wants ATAR Methods. What should they prioritise in Year 10?
Algebra, algebra, algebra. Specifically: factorising quadratics, completing the square, surds and indices, and being fluent with logs. We dedicate Term 2 and Term 3 to making these second-nature so Year 11 Methods Unit 1 feels like revision, not learning.
Is it too late to start in Year 10?
No, but Term 1 of Year 10 is the latest "comfortable" entry point. We've had students join in Term 3 and still catch up to top of class, but it requires more weekly contact hours. The earlier you start, the lighter the load.
Do you cover school tests and assignments?
Yes. We adapt to your child's school tests and topic order. Our tutors will work directly through their assignment briefs and revise for upcoming chapter tests when needed.
How does this compare to a private 1-on-1 tutor?
A 1-on-1 tutor in Perth typically charges $90–$120/hr. Our small group (max 10) is $48/hr in package, includes the workbook, snacks and drinks, and gives your child the social accountability of learning with peers. We won't pretend 1-on-1 has no advantages, but in our experience the small-group format outperforms it 4 terms out of 5.
