Inside Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi College was officially opened on 17 April 1983 by the Archbishop of Perth, Lancelot John Goody, and the then Commonwealth Minister for Finance, John Dawkins. It was established as the first non-order-owned co-educational Catholic Secondary College in the Archdiocese of Perth, a deliberate move by the Catholic Education Commission to provide a co-ed Catholic option in southern Perth that wasn't tied to a single religious order's tradition.

The college sits on a single 7-hectare campus in suburban Bateman, south of the Swan and close to Murdoch University and the Royal Perth Hospital Murdoch teaching site. The compact campus has grown program offerings and facilities steadily over four decades.

In 2022, Corpus Christi amalgamated with Yidarra Catholic Primary School, allowing the college to become a full K-12 school. Students can now commence at Kindergarten rather than Year 7. The college caters for approximately 1,755 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, making it one of the larger Catholic colleges in southern Perth.

What Corpus Christi is known for

Top Catholic ATAR performer in southern Perth

Corpus Christi consistently sits near the top of the WA Catholic-school ATAR rankings, year on year. For Catholic families south of the river wanting strong academic results without going to a top-fee PSA private school, Corpus Christi is one of the obvious choices.

Recent K-12 amalgamation

The 2022 Yidarra merger gives families a single Catholic K-12 pathway in Bateman. Few WA Catholic schools have made this transition recently; the integrated K-12 model is still settling but works well.

Diocesan college, not order-run

Founded as the first non-order-owned co-ed Catholic college in the Perth Archdiocese, Corpus Christi has a slightly different governance model from Christian Brothers, Mercy, or Jesuit-run schools. The pastoral framework is broadly Catholic rather than tied to one order's charism.

South-of-river Catholic co-ed option

Most top Catholic schools in Perth are either single-sex or located further away. For Catholic families in the southern corridor wanting co-ed, Corpus Christi is the closest strong option to many southern suburbs.

Things to consider

Corpus Christi isn't the right fit for every student. Here are the genuine tradeoffs to think through, drawn from publicly available information about the school.

Catholic foundation, central not optional

Religion is a curriculum subject, masses and chapel-style events are part of the school year, and the Catholic identity is core. For non-Catholic families, this is worth understanding before enrolment.

Independent Catholic fees

Fees sit in the mid-tier Catholic range. Plan for tuition plus uniforms, camps, and co-curricular costs. Sibling discounts and other supports exist; check with the school directly.

Bateman location

Bateman is south of the river but inland from the coast. For families further south or in the western suburbs, the daily commute is significant.

New K-12 transition

The K-12 model since 2022 is still relatively new. Some families like the integrated pathway; others find the transition between former-Yidarra primary and Corpus Christi secondary less seamless than they expected. Worth visiting both sides.

The ATAR pathway at Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi students take broad ATAR plates. Most common: Pre-medicine (Methods + Chemistry + Human Bio + English), Engineering / sciences (Methods + Specialist + Physics + Chemistry), Health sciences (Methods or Apps + Chemistry + Human Bio + Psychology), and Humanities / Law (Literature + History + Religion and Life + a Language).

UWA and Curtin are the dominant tertiary destinations, with Notre Dame Fremantle and Murdoch also common (Murdoch is geographically very close).
