Inside Wesley
Wesley College was established in 1923 by members of the Methodist Church (founded by John Wesley) to serve the sons of agricultural settlers east of Perth. Classes began in February 1923 with 38 foundation students, many of them boarders. The college has occupied its 19-hectare riverside property in South Perth, near the banks of the Swan River, since its earliest years.
Wesley is now co-educational to Year 6 and boys-only from Year 7 to 12. The first female students were enrolled in 1978 with the opening of a new Junior School. The Senior School (Years 9 to 12) is single-sex, and around 150 boarders live on campus across age groups.
Academically, Wesley has had a strong recent period. The 2024 cohort posted a median ATAR of 89.30, the second-best result in the modern era (TER/ATAR 2003 onwards), with 95.4% of ATAR students scoring 70 or above, the school's best ever rate. The class of 2021 made history with nine ATARs of 99.95.
