Inside the masterclass

Most students and families begin ATAR without fully understanding what it is, how it works, or what is actually expected over the next two years. This masterclass gives students and families a clear understanding of the ATAR pathway before Year 11 begins, helping them avoid the mistakes that many students only realise far too late.

🧮 How ATAR is calculated

Scaling and ranking explained simply, so students and parents finally understand what the number actually represents and how it gets there.

📊 School marks vs exam marks vs scaled marks

The three different marks that make up an ATAR, what each one really means, and which ones move the needle the most.

🎯 Why ATAR matters and who should consider it

An honest look at when ATAR is the right pathway and when it is not, so families can make a confident decision before Year 11.

Common questions

Everything parents and students typically ask about this masterclass.

My child is already in Year 11. Is it too late?
Not at all. Year 11 students still get a lot of value from Foundations because most of them haven’t had ATAR explained properly. We’ve had Year 12s sit in too and tell us they wish they’d heard it earlier.
Will this teach my child the subjects?
No. Foundations is about understanding the ATAR system itself, how it’s calculated, what to expect, and how Year 11 and 12 actually run. Subject content is covered in our regular tutoring classes.
How long is the masterclass?
60 minutes of teaching plus an open Q&A at the end. Booklet handouts are given out at the start so students can follow along without taking notes the whole time.
Who runs the masterclass?
Educatta’s 97+ ATAR graduates, the same team that built the curriculum. Most sessions are co-presented by two of our co-founders so students hear different perspectives in the same hour.
Do I have to attend the other masterclasses too?
No. Each masterclass in The 97+ ATAR Roadmap stands on its own. Pick whichever ones look useful and skip the rest, like a menu.
Are parents welcome?
Yes. Parents make up a real chunk of the audience at most sessions, especially Foundations and Subject Selection. The booklet is written so parents and students can both follow along.
Can my school host this masterclass?
Yes. We run all five Roadmap masterclasses inside Perth high schools at no cost to the school. Scroll to the For schools section on the events page or call us on (08) 6157 1525 to plan a date.
