Inside the masterclass

Choosing the correct ATAR subjects can be tricky for many students, as they often don't understand the requirements and demand of each subject. This results in incorrect selections, regrets and dropping subjects throughout the year. Designed to help Year 10 students and families make informed, strategic subject choices before entering Year 11.

📚 Introduction to ATAR subjects

A clear overview of every ATAR subject on offer in WA, what each one involves, and the kind of student each one tends to suit.

⚖️ Workload, expectations and study requirements

How much each subject actually demands week-to-week, so students don't pick a load they can't sustain through Year 11 and 12.

📈 Understanding scaling and how it impacts your ATAR

How WACE scaling really works, with real worked examples that show how subject choice changes the final number.

🎯 Balancing interests, strengths and long-term goals

A practical framework for picking subjects you'll enjoy, do well in, and that line up with the courses you want at university.

The recurring mistakes we see Year 10 students make every year and exactly how to avoid each one.

Common questions

Everything parents and students typically ask about this masterclass.

When should we attend?
End of Year 10 is the sweet spot, before subject selection forms go in. Mid Year 10 is also good. After Year 11 has already started, the value drops because most decisions are locked in.
Can my child change subjects after Year 11 starts?
Sometimes, but it depends on the school and how late in the term it is. We cover the realistic limits in the masterclass, plus how to stress-test a subject choice before locking it in.
How long is the masterclass?
60 minutes of teaching plus an open Q&A at the end. Booklet handouts are given out at the start so students can follow along without taking notes the whole time.
Who runs the masterclass?
Educatta’s 97+ ATAR graduates, the same team that built the curriculum. Most sessions are co-presented by two of our co-founders so students hear different perspectives in the same hour.
Do I have to attend the other masterclasses too?
No. Each masterclass in The 97+ ATAR Roadmap stands on its own. Pick whichever ones look useful and skip the rest, like a menu.
Are parents welcome?
Yes. Parents make up a real chunk of the audience at most sessions, especially Foundations and Subject Selection. The booklet is written so parents and students can both follow along.
Can my school host this masterclass?
Yes. We run all five Roadmap masterclasses inside Perth high schools at no cost to the school. Scroll to the For schools section on the events page or call us on (08) 6157 1525 to plan a date.
